How to check if I have an unlocked Android bootloader - step by step

You just got a brand new one iPhone in a reputable store, or received it in one of the foreign online stores, paid someone to unlock. Or maybe they took it from you and don’t know its history at all. How to check if your phone is officially unlocked?

To check the status of the factory lock, just know the IMEI number of the phone. This is an international identifier for mobile equipment that is unique in every mobile device. Manufacturers generate this 15-digit code in a special way, so that from it you can get some information about the device model, year of manufacture, etc. According to this code, mobile phones get to various bases, for example, to the police, there is a list of IMEI of stolen phones. So Apple has a base where the codes of unlocked mobile devices are entered.

There are several services on the network for online checking the status of a block. They ask to enter the IMEI from the phone into the form and report whether the factory lock has been removed from the iPhone.
In addition, it reports whether there was a SIM card attached to the operator and warranty details on this phone.

Here is a step-by-step verification instruction:

Step 1: First you need to find out the IMEI number itself. It should be written on the box, but for the sake of fidelity it is better to look at it on the phone. Go to Settings-> Basic and write somewhere. You can simply dial the combination * # 06 # and the number will be displayed on the screen. By the way, if the number on the box and the phone does not match, this is the first sign that some unlocking procedures were carried out with the phone.

Step 2: Now you can go through the browser to the site of the verification service, for example IMEI. info and in the input field enter the previously received IMEI number. Click the "Check" button and wait.

Step 3: A page with a photo of the model like your phone’s, specifications, release date and other information will be displayed. In the lower right corner, click the "status check" button

Step 4: A window appears where it says with what guarantee the phone was sold and whether it was tied to some operator. If the iPhone was unlocked by unofficial means, such as Ultrasn 0 w or the like, the card lock status should be “tied”.

We hope this information will help you in the future, usually you need to know it if you install the firmware on your phone or update it yourself. Since if the phone was unofficially unlocked, and you install the latest version of iOS, for which there is no jailbreak yet, it may lose functionality.

Method # 1 - Using the Service Menu

The easiest way, which does not require connecting the phone to a computer or installing special software, is to enter the service code in the Phone application (dial keypad). In the service menu we find all kinds of information about our phone, including the current state of the bootloader and the possibility of unlocking it in general.

Attention! The following method will show not only unlocking the bootloader, but also the ability to unlock it (when it is locked). Some operators completely block the bootloader unlock, so you should check before trying to unlock it.

We launch the Telefon application or any other Dialer that we use, and then enter the following code into it:

* # * # 7378423 # * # *

A black menu in English will appear on the screen. Go to the Tools tab> Configuration. Various information will be presented here - we are interested in one of the following points:

Unlocked bootloader = Yes - means that the phone already has an unlocked bootloader, and we do not need to re-unlock it

Allow unlock bootloader = Yes - means that the phone has the ability to unlock the bootloader, but currently it is not unlocked

Allow unlock bootloader = no - means that the operator completely blocked the possibility of unlocking, and no code from the manufacturer will help us (this phone simply can not be unlocked)

Method # 2 - Use your computer and the Fastboot feature

The second method is for people who have a blocked service menu. This often happens when we buy a phone in an audio / video store or when it is imported, for example, from China - it is not “branded” by any operator and there is no information contained in the service menu. However, we can try to check the status of the bootloader by connecting the phone to the computer in Fastboot mode.

Download minimal adb fast download

First, we need to install the ADB and Fastboot modules on the computer, which will allow you to connect to the phone in a special mode. For this purpose, we compile the above package, which installs both functions very quickly.

We run the installer and then install the program in the directory of our choice - by default, this is the “Minimum ADB Fastboot” folder in the Program Files (x86) folder. After installation, we need to run the command window directly in this folder - if in the installer we left the parameter “Launch minimum ADB” Fastboot “, this command window is already displayed, and we can move on. However, if we closed this window and want to open it again, we enter "Minimum ADB Fastboot", hold the Shift key on the keyboard and right-click inside the folder. From the drop-down list, select "Run Command Window Here."

We already have a command window. Now we need to enable “USB debugging” on the phone (see How to enable programming and USB debugging options). When “USB debugging” is turned on, we connect the phone to the computer using a USB cable. If you are asked to allow connection to your computer, click “Allow”. Then enter the following command to enter Fastboot mode on your phone:

adb reboot bootloader

The phone will restart in Fastboot / Bootloader mode. Already at this stage, we can look at the screen of our phone and see if information about the bootloader is displayed. For example, for me in Honor 6 a green message appears “Phone is locked”, which means that the bootloader is locked. Check if you have similar information.

However, if there is no information about the bootloader state (only the Fastboot screen itself), enter the following command in the command window on the computer:

fastboot oem device-info

Name information appears “Device Unlocked”. If its value is set to "True", that means our phone has unlocked bootloader. If it is displayed "Lying", it means that bootloader locked. Then enter the following command to restart the phone in normal mode:

reboot fastboot

The phone will exit Fastboot mode and start in the traditional way. Now we know if we have an unlocked Android bootloader.
